Vietnam Nightlife
What to Do at Night in Vietnam
![]() |
The nightlife scene in Vietnam is changing dramatically. Big cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are now full of lively pubs, clubs and bars. The same applies to many tourist destinations such as Halong Bay, Mui Ne and Phan Thiet. The good news is that it's not particularly expensive to go out at night as Vietnam brews some of the cheapest draft beer in the world.
But the nighttime fun doesn't just extend to drinking. You can always catch one of the many beautiful culture shows which present the important and rich facets of Vietnamese culture. Nighttime entertainment choices include the famous Vietnamese Water Puppet Show and traditional dance shows.
Hanoi Nightlife
Hanoi is not world famous for its nightlife and some visitors find it outright staid but there are some places worth checking out and – as everywhere – it's all out there if you look for it. Perhaps the most prolific side to Hanoi's after-work activities is its many beer bars selling 'bia hoi (fresh beer) where a glass costs a fraction of what it would in the west. (Read More)
Ho Chi Minh City - Saigon Nightlife
Ho Chi Minh City’s entertainment industry is growing fast, though it’s still not a city for round-the-clock entertainment – most places close soon after midnight. But what’s available is quality fun. There is a wide variety of pubs and bars, especially in the city center, and the number of discos and clubs with regular live music is booming. (Read More)
Mui Ne & Phan Thiet Nightlife
Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are small towns, so most visitors know they should not expect anything very sophisticated in the way of nightlife, yet most holidaymakers still find there is enough in the way of entertainment to keep boredom at bay.
The most popular hangouts tend to be the bars run by expats, such as Jibes. Others worth checking out include Beach Break (Tel: +84 [0] 62 384 7032) in Phan Thiet, which has lively music; Mellow, also in Phan Thiet (Tel: +84 [0] 62 374 3086), where new faces and backpackers tend to assemble; Wax (Tel: +84 [0] 62 384 7001) and Sand Dollar (Tel: +84 [0] 62 384-7409) in Phan Thiet which both have great music.
Pogo Bar (Tel: +84 [0] 90 62 947 9346 ) at 138 Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Phan Thiet, which has pool tables and is popular with kite-boarders. Pogo donates part of its profits to a charity for Vietnamese children, so a drink here can also give you a warm moral glow.
Phu Quoc Island Nightlife
Night time in Phu Quoc is as relaxed as any other, the whole island is a place to just chill out and enjoy the scenery and after dark is no exception – the hypnotic lights from the quid boats at see are so numerous they look like a galaxy. Nightlife invariably follows this pattern; cocktails at sunset, dinner at a beachside restaurant followed by a few drinks at a beach bar. (Read More)
Hoi An Nightlife
Even though Hoi An has a reputation as a town that turns its lights off early, there are two factors that make it an attractive nightlife location: Number one, you can walk everywhere here as it's small enough for a night out without the need of wheels and indeed the centre is pedestrian only – this in a country that adores motorbikes.
