Southern Thailand covers a total of 14 provinces, all located
on a peninsula that borders both the gulf of Thailand and
Andaman Sea. The region has a richly varied topography including
basin areas for cultivation of rubber trees, fruits and vegetables,
wild jungles, mountain ranges, beaches and islands of all
sizes, offering spectacular scenery and unforgettable experiences
throughout.
Phuket,
Samui
and Krabi
are the three major seaside resort destinations, widely considered
to be among the most popular in Asia. Their white sandy beaches,
colourful coral reefs and crystal-clear water make them ideal
holiday spots for swimmers, scuba-divers and sun-lovers. The
south is also popular as a destination for health and spa
experiences, and soft adventure holidays. Other destinations
like Hat Yai are famous for their shopping.
While the vast majority of visitors to South Thailand are
pure fun-lovers, the area is attracting more than its fair
share off meetings incentives and conventions business, especially
among Southeast Asian companies seeking to provide their staff
with both a recreational and educational experience. Extensive
airline connections to Phuket from numerous Asia-Pacific cities
are making this increasingly possible.
