Yangon Information
Travel and Local Information Guide
Yangon is truly a beautiful city. While it can be visited at any time of the year, people who are interested in going should plan for a trip after the monsoon season. This is because the sights and attractions of Yangon will be better enjoyed without heavy rain or scorching heat.
As the largest city in Myanmar, Yangon also serves as the country's spiritual centre and is where a lot of the country’s sacred pagodas and temples can be found. Spirituality is very important to the people of Myanmar, and they treat their elders and monks with utmost respect. Before going to Yangon, a tourist must be familiar with what is considered appropriate and inappropriate behaviour, especially when it comes to dealing with matters of religion and culture.
Yangon provides its visitors more than enough options in terms of transportation. The most popular means of getting around the city is by taxi.
Yangon Weather and Climate
Myanmar generally has three seasons; the monsoon season begins in May and lasts until October. The cool season starts November, and extends until February while the hot season lasts from March to May. The average temperatures in the country range from 32° C (90° F) in central and lower areas, to 21° C (70° F) in the north. Tourists can visit the country all year round but the best time to go is after the monsoon season, when the weather is not too hot and not too wet.
Visitors are encouraged to bring with them light and casual cotton clothes, as these are suitable for any climate. However, the choice of clothing still depends on the season during a person's trip. Warmer clothing is necessary during the cold season in Yangon. For footwear, sandals and slip-on shoes will do.
Getting Around Yangon: City Transportation
To those who have not made any travel plans, they would find the many taxis around the city as a blessing. Taxis are available everywhere in Yangon. While a taxi ride may be more expensive than other means of transportation, it is still the best way to travel in the city because of the ease and level of comfort it provides.
Buses and trains are also options for travelling around the city. The 2.5 million daily commuters in Yangon are serviced by the 250 bus lines. Meanwhile, those who prefer cheaper fares can opt for the services of the circular train.
Things to Know When In Yangon
Because each place is different in term of practices and customs, it is necessary for tourists to know the do's and don'ts in their chosen destination. In the city of Yangon, there are some cultural rules that should be strictly followed, especially when it comes to visiting pagodas and interacting with monks.
Below are some of the rules, as well as other tips visitors to Yangon will find useful.
