Laos Cruise - 2 Days

Remarks:
Basic behavior visiting minority: Do not buy antique jewelry and family heirlooms from villagers. Try to support village income by buying new handicraft items. Do not encourages begging by distributing gifts (especially candies). Alternatively, try to donate to school or thru the mayor’s house in the village the papers, books, pens, etc. Always ask the permission before entering a house if you pass through a village, stop and visit for a while. If not, villagers may think that you come along with bad spirit. Entering an area of forest dedicated to the spirits is not allowed. Touching spirit items is not allowed. Please ask your local guide before doing anything which may cause offenses to the villagers.

Itinerary - Program Up River (Luang Prabang - Thai Border)

Luang Prabang - Pakbeng (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Luangsay boat departs from Luang Prabang pier at 07:00 – 07:30 am. for a cruise up the Mekong River to Pakbeng. On the way to Pak Ou village, at the mouth of the Nam Ou River a visit is organized to Tam Ting (Caves of a thousand Buddha’s). After a brief stop is made at Ban Baw to observe the processing traditional rice alcohol, a buffet lunch is served on board. Boat arrives at Luangsay Lodge before sunset for overnight stop. Dinner is served at terrace overlooking the Mekong River. |

Pakbeng - Houeisay (Brakfast, Lunch) Breakfast is served at terrace around 06:30 am. Visit the morning market (optional) of Pakbeng where the nearby villagers and hill tribes buy and exchange their goods. Boat departs at 07:30 am. for her second part of trip. One stop is made to visit and admire the authentic rural life of hill tribe settlements. Lunch is served on board. Arriving Houeisay before 17:00 pm. (you may proceed to Chiang Rai in the same day.) |

Houei Say - Pakbeng (Lunch, Dinner) The Luangsay riverboat leaves Houeisay pier at 09:00 am. for a cruise down the Mekong to Pakbeng. En route one stop is made to observe the rural life of the river tribes along the Mekong. A buffet lunch is served on board. The boat arrives at Luangsay Lodge before sunset for overnight stay. Dinner is served at terrace overlooking the Mekong River. |

Pakbeng - Pak Ou - Luang Prabang (Breakfast, Lunch) Breakfast is served at terrace around 07:30 am. In the morning, visit the morning market (optional) of Pakbeng village where the nearby villagers and hill tribes buy and exchange their goods. Boat departs at 08:30 am. for her second part of trip. The boat has a stop at Ban Baw to observe the processing traditional rice alcohol. Lunch is served on board. Upon arrival at Pak Ou village at the mouth of Nam Ou River, boat stops for a trip to visit Tam Ting (Caves of thousand Buddha’s), arriving Luang Prabang (UNESCO world heritage town) before sunset. |

| About Luangsay Lodge: |
Luangsay Lodge is located and built in a very romantic setting. On the river bank, amidst the lush green hills the Lodge gives the feeling that you have discovered an untouched nature. Constructed in traditional Lao architectural style with solid wood, each room has a bathroom with hot and cold shower, electric fan and mosquito net. Attached balconies offer a beautiful view of the Mekong River and hills. A central riverbank restaurant is reached by wooden walkways from the pavilions. The well prepared local dishes are served in the main dining room overlooking the river. A small bar offers choice of drinks at reasonable rates. On days when house guests exceed than 20 persons and during high season, Luangsay Lodge provides hill tribe folk dances performed by the villagers.

Luangsay cruise starts or ends at the pier next to the Immigration checkpoint at Houeisay, the Lao border town on the north bank of Mekong River. On the opposite bank to Houeisay on the south bank of Mekong River, is Chiang Khong (Chiang Rai province) the Thai border town. Crossing the river from one checkpoint to the other takes only 5 minutes by regular shuttle boat. Chiang Khong is linked by good roads to Chiang Rai town and airport (2 hours drive) or Chiang Saen (1 hour drive). Luangsay may arrange individual or group transfer between Chiang Rai or Chiang Saen and Houeisay or vice versa at extra costs that include road transportation, shuttle boat, porter fee and assistance for immigration formalities both sides of the Mekong River. |
