Formerly Faifo, this ancient town and World Heritage Site has become one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations. Located south of Danang on the banks of the Thu Bon River, Hoi An was a thriving international commercial port for Chinese, Dutch, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Arab traders who came for locally produced high-grade silk and ceramics. The town has a distinctly Chinese feel with low, tiled-roof houses and narrow streets.
