Siem Reap Biking
Tour - 3 Days
Siem Reap
|
 |
| Day 1 - SIEM REAP (-/L/D) (cycling distance
28 - 38 km)
|
Morning, first discovery (cycling range from 10 to 20
kilometres, depending on customer's request to cycle all the
way or be transferred on some parts of the circuit).
Ride from your hotel in Siem Reap to Angkor Wat, following countryside
trails first and then the paved roads of the Small Circuit.
Visit the most famous of all the temples on the plain of Angkor:
Angkor Wat. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable
in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five
towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century
masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime
example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Angkor Wat's
five towers symbolize Meru's five peaks - the enclosed wall
represents the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding
moat, the ocean beyond. After the visit cycle on to Bayon Temple.
Visit the temple that is unique for its 54 towers decorated
with over 200 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara.
Lunch.
Afternoon: Small circuit (cycling distance 18 kilometres).
From Bayon Temple cycle inside the ancient capital of Angkor
Thom (12th century) to see the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas,
Terraces of Elephants and Leper King, Death Gate and Victory
Gate. Cycle along countryside roads to enjoy the scenic life
in a village and continue to one of the most beautiful temples
in the area: Ta Prohm. Visit the temple which is swallowed by
the jungle and has been relatively untouched since it was discovered
and retains much of its mystery. Continue to Srah Srang and
enjoy the sunset before you cycle on to a village.
Dinner and overnight accommodation in a village. |

 |
 |
| Day 2 - SIEM REAP (B/L/-) (cycling distance
66 km) |
Breakfast in the village. Morning: Siem Reap-Wat Trak-Roluos
(Bakong) (riding distance 33 kilometres). Ride on small sandy
trails through villages and rice fields in the countryside until
Wat Trak temple (Chau Srei Vibol). Visit the temple and its
pagoda. Lunch. Afternoon: Roluos (Bakong)-Tonle Sap-Roluos-Tonle
Sap-(Siem Reap) - riding distance from 28 to 30 kilometres.
Continue to the monuments of Roluos, which served as the capital
of Indravarman I (reigned 877-89). They are among the earliest
large, permanent temples built by the Khmers and mark the beginning
of Khmer classical art. Visit Bakong, the largest and most interesting
of the Roluos group temples, with his active Buddhist monastery
just to the north of the east entrance. After visiting Bakong,
ride to Siem Reap River and then to the floating village of
Chong Khneas, located 10 kilometers south of Siem Reap. Visit
the village and take an excursion in a traditional wooden boat
on the Tonle Sap Lake, the "Great Lake" of Cambodia
and one of the largest in Asia. Transfer with vehicle to the
hotel.
Dinner and accommodation at hotel in Siem Reap (at own
account) |

 |
| Day 3 - SIEM REAP (-/L/-) (cycling distance
52 km) |
Breakfast at hotel at own account.
Morning: Siem Reap-Banteay Srei-Grand Circuit (riding
distance 31 kilometres).
Start your day with a bicycle ride from the hotel to Banteay
Srei temple (10th century), regarded as the jewel in the crown
of classical Khmer art. Visit the temple.
Lunch. Afternoon: Neak Pean-Banteay Kdei-Siem Reap (riding
distance 21 kilometres).
Ride on secondary and mainly unpaved roads or transfer until
Preah Khan. Visit the temple, built by King Jayavarman VII.
Preah Khan is, like Ta Prohm, a place of towered enclosures
and shoulder hugging corridors. Unlike Ta Prohm, however, the
temple of Preah Khan is in a reasonable state of preservation
and ongoing restoration efforts should maintain and even improve
this situation. Continue to Neak Pean, a fountain built in the
middle of a pool (representing the paradisiacal Himalayan mountain-lake).
After visiting Neak Pean ride to Banteay Kdei, which is surrounded
by 4 concentric walls. Cycle back to Siem Reap town on the Small
Circuit road and countryside trails. |
